Palmerton considering ESU trainer agreement

Palmerton Area School District could soon increase its trainer capacity as part of an agreement with East Stroudsburg University.

Superintendent Carol Boyce informed the school board at a workshop session on Tuesday about a possible articulation agreement with ESU.

Boyce said the total cost of the agreement would be $19,055, of which ESU is willing to split half the cost. The agreement would provide a graduate assistant, as well as two intern trainers, she said.

"The benefit from the district's point of view is that we must have a trainer present per PIAA rules at both sites of games, the high school fields and Seventh Street Field, now that soccer will be playing their games at Seventh Street," Boyce said. "The agreement with ESU gives us not only a second trainer in the form of a graduate assistant to meet the PIAA requirements, but also two student interns to assist. We actually increase our trainer capacity for student safety by three people."

It was agreed the matter would be placed on the agenda for a vote when the board meets at 7 p.m. May 15.
