Nesquehoning driver facing DUI

Published May 03. 2012 05:01PM

A Nesquehoning driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 2:33 a.m. on Saturday, April 28.

Borough Officer Thomas Kurtz responded to the intersection of Angelini and Musmano for a report of a crash. On scene he observed a pickup truck off the road that had struck a utility pole.

The driver was identified as Tony Stoeckel, of 112 E. Garibaldi Ave. He claimed three deer had entered the road in front of him and he swerved to avoid hitting them.

Kurtz smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage on Stoeckel. He was taken into custody and transported to St. Luke's Miners Memorial Hospital, Coaldale, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results.
