Choral program

The Tamaqua Middle and Senior High School Vocal Music Department will present its annual Spring Choral program this Thursday, May 3 in the Tamaqua Area Auditorium. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will feature performances by the Middle School Select and General Chorus, the Senior High Concert Choir and the Jazz and Concert Chorale.

This year's program will feature the music of Mozart, Duke Ellington, Leonard Bernstein, Bruno Mars, Katy Perry and Adele.

Accompanists will be Julian Gerace, Steven Moyer and Erin Raymond. The choirs are under the direction of John Buglio.

Doors will open at 6:45 p.m.

Historians meeting

The Tamaqua Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, at 114 W. Broad St., Tamaqua. The meeting is open to the public and anyone interested in learning more about, or preserving the area's heritage is welcome to attend.

Art show

The Tamaqua Area Middle School Spring Art Show will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. on May 3 on the main floor of the middle school. Students from sixth, seventh and eighth grades will have their art work displayed, including paintings, 3-D interiors, murals, sketches, masks, group projects, cultural art, tiles, watercolor, fashion design, collages and more. There is no entry fee for the art show.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include Holy Communion. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m. and Confirmation class meets at 11:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Cub Scouts, Daisies and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m., worship and music committee meets at 6 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: junior choir at 7 p.m., senior choir at 7:30 p.m.

SS. Peter and Paul

First Holy Communion will be celebrated during the 10:30 a.m. Mass this Sunday in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

First Friday will be observed this week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.

May 5 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the rosary and Devotions before the 8 a.m. Mass.

Members of the parish Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass on May 6 and receive Holy Communion as a group. A rosary will be said before the Mass.

The Ladies Auxiliary May Tea will be held at 4:30 p.m. on May 7, at the home of Bernadette Griffiths. Members are reminded to bring their favorite dessert.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Monday, worship and music committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m.

Budget requests are due by May 13.

Bethany EC

The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, a prayer walk, with AOG, will begin at 1 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m. and "The Story" growth group meets at 6:30 p.m.
