Fire crews from 2 counties battle fast-moving West Penn brush fire

Fire fighters from two counties battled a fast moving brush fire Friday afternoon in West Penn Township.

The fire was first reported near 3 p.m. in the 1400 block of Spring Road near Cold Spring Rroad. Flames were racing up a steep embankment into a heavily wooded area.

Fire companies from West Penn No. 1, Mahoning Valley, Tamaqua and Lehighton responded. The flames were fanned by high winds and fed by dry brush.

Fire fighters were on scene for two hours.
