A Monroe County man is facing multiple charges, including attempted rape, following an incident reported on Sunday, March 25, about 6:52 a.m.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said officers responded to a residence in the Emerald Lake Estates, in Tobyhanna Township, for a report of an assault.

On scene officers found evidence of forced entry. A 24-year-old female was found inside the home lying on the floor. Her 1-year-old child was also found in the room. The female suffered substantial injuries to her face, police said, and identified the assailant as Alexander Andrew Gibson, 25, of East Stroudsburg.

The victim told police Gibson broke into the home about 4 a.m. while she was asleep. She said she was awakened by Gibson calling out her name. She stated Gibson was inside her bedroom and standing over her. She told him to leave and went to find her child. She stated Gibson assaulted her by hitting her multiple times with his fist and kicking her repeatedly. She also said Gibson attempted to rape her.

She stated she went unconscious for a time and when she woke up she called her mother and also 9-1-1. She was transported to a hospital for her injuries, police added.

Pocono police later located Gibson at the residence of his mother in East Stroudsburg and took him into custody without incident. He was charged with burglary and related offenses, assault and attempted rape. Assisting PMRP were Pocono Township police, state police, Stroud Area Regional police and the county district attorney's office.
