The Sunday School of St. John's Lutheran Church, South Avenue, invites the congregation to join them for the annual Palm Sunday breakfast on April 1. The breakfast will consist of scrambled eggs, bacon, muffins, juice, coffee and tea and will be served approximately 9:45 a.m.

The Palm Sunday worship service will follow the breakfast at 10:30, with the celebration of Holy Communion. Installation of new members will take place during the service.

Smoke detectors

Jim Thorpe Fire Chief, Bill Diehm, has smoke detectors, which are available for residents of the community who are in need of one. You may contact Chief Diehm, at (570) 325-3890. The detectors are offered free from the Jim Thorpe Fire Department. No commercial properties. Residents who have detectors are reminded to check the batteries in your devices.

Free venison dinner

Christ United Church of Christ, 4th and Center Street, will hold a free community venison dinner on April 14, at the church. Seatings will be 5 and 6 p.m. The menu will be roasts, sausage, meatloaf and all the trimmings.
