Monroe driver facing DUI count

A Monroe County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 9:24 p.m. on March 21 at the intersection of Jonas and Merwinsburg roads, in Chestnuthill Township.

State police at Fern Ridge said Gerard Vanspanje, 50, of Kunkletown, was operating a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Jonas Road and failed to properly stop for a posted stop sign at the intersection.

He traveled off the shoulder and struck a boulder along the berm.

After impact the car traveled about 45 feet before coming to rest on the shoulder.

Vanspanje was not injured. He was placed under arrest for DUI, troopers said.
