Published March 26. 2012 05:00PM

The Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority held its first Litter Prevention, Control and Cleanup meeting recently at the Monroe County Conservation District Office.

The newly formed Committee elected Jim Becker (Representative - Chamber of Commerce) as Chairman, and Ed Cramer (Supervisor of Stroud Township) as Vice Chairman.

"It was a great and enthusiastic meeting attended by concerned residents and municipal officials," said Executive Director, Jim Lambert.

A road map was established by coordinating organizations with the Monroe County Correctional Outmates Program, the Monroe County Probation Dept along with many municipal and local volunteers. Community involvement is a necessity to establish a Litter Prevention Program.

Lester Weinman (Chairman- Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority) quoted "I was so pleased to see such passion, enthusiasm and energy generated from this meeting. This is a great sign of success for the county and the residents".

The Committee to Prevent, Control and Cleanup Litter will meet at 8:30am every fourth Thursday of the month. The public is encouraged to attend.
