Driver facing DUI count after crash

Published March 23. 2012 05:01PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one-vehicle crash in which she was injured and flown to a Lehigh Valley area hospital. State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred about 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, March 21, at the intersection of Main Street and Manheim Road, in North Manheim Township.

Troopers said Deborah Holley-Purcell, 41, of Pottsville, operating a 1998 Ford Mustang, failed to negotiate a right turn onto Manheim Road from Main Street, and struck a large drainage ditch on the north berm.

Holley-Purcell had to be extricated from the vehicle by rescue personnel and was then flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of what troopers said were moderate injuries.

Troopers added that the DUI charge is pending blood test results.
