Frey's is top seed

The regular season of the Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) winter basketball league is in the books, with four teams advancing into the playoffs.

With a win over Cuz-N-Joe's Place, R.R. Frey Services claimed the top overall seed and will meet Pereira's Kwik Stop/Joey B's in semifinal action. Pereira's'Joey B's punched its ticket to the playoffs with a win over Schick's Cafe Calcutta.

In the other semifinal matchup, defending league champion Ryan's Oil & Heating will battle it out with Cuz-N-Joe's Place.

The playoffs tip off tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Tamaqua Area Athletic Center.

Cuz-N-Joe's Place-

R.R. Frey Services

R.R. Frey Services posted a 67-59 victory over Cuz-N-Joe's Place.

Derrick McFarland scored 19 points to led R.R. Frey's. Ryan Achenbach (17 points) and Dave Wilson (15 points) also contributed.

For Cuz-N-Joe's Place, Brandon DeCosmo buried six three-pointers and scored a game-high 28 points, while Soko Mujovic and Jon Veet added 10 points apiece.

Ryan's Oil & Heating-The Batter's Box

Defending league champion Ryan's Oil & Heating combined for 17 three-pointers and knocked off The Batter's Box, 87-70.

League three-point leader Joe Schaeffer drained seven treys and led Ryan's with 23 points. Jeff Peel tallied 17 points and five three-pointers, while Jon Scheuer netted 15.

Erick Trabal scored a game-high 31 points to pace The Batter's Box. Aaron Mantz added 25 points.

Schick's Cafe Calcutta-Pereira's/Joey B's

In a winner-take-all game for the fourth and final playoff spot, Pereira's Kwik Stop/Joey B's extended its season with a 62-55 victory over Schick's Cafe Calcutta.

Tom Kresge's 17 points led Pereira's/Joey B's. Peter Balogach knocked down 14.

For Schick's, Joe Tamagini led the way with a game-high 24 points and four treys. Mark Mazur added 14 points.

Longboard Surfers-Midas Touch Hair Salon

In a battle of winless teams, the Longboard Surfers finished their season on a high note with a 55-34 victory over Midas Touch Hair Salon.

Colin Nurse's 18 points topped the Longboard Surfers. Rashaad James chipped in with 10 points.

Andrew Michalik and Andy McFadden led Midas Touch Hair Salon with seven points apiece.
