Irish essay contest at St. Joseph's Academy

The winners of the Molly Maguires Division 1, Carbon County Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians Irish essay contest at St. Joseph's Regional Academy in Jim Thorpe were announced on Friday. Peggy Sue O'Donnell, Irish historian, front left; and Sharon Choley, LAOH president, front right, presented the awards to, front, from left, Danielle Spillman, second place; and Sean Choley, honorable mention. Second row, Maureen Kloap, third place; Noah Goldberg, honorable mention; and Kobie Arndt, first place. The students wrote about the history of Irish immigrant Annie Moore, who at 15 years old, was the first immigrant to step foot on Ellis Island, when it opened on Jan. 1, 1892.
