Lehighton AMVETS name contest winners

Lehighton AMVETS, Elwood Miller Post 106, have announced the winners of the 2011-2012 "Americanism" contest.

The theme for both the poster and essay contest was, "I Am Proud to be an American because ..."

Prizes for both contests are, first place, $50; second place, $30; and third place, $20.

Poster contest winners were, third grade, first place, Lily McDonough, Shull-David Elementary School; second place, Lindsay Rohling, St. Peter and Paul School; and third place, Damon Shumway, Shull-David Elementary School.

Essay contest winners were, seventh grade, first place, Miguel Gonzales, St. Peter and Paul School; Amy McConnell, St. Peter and Paul School; and Matthew Strubinger, Lehighton Area Middle School.

The contest was open to all Lehighton area third and seventh grade students. All winners will be recognized at the spring concert at the middle school on Wednesday, May 2.

Commander Bob Rehnert and Adjutant Randy Rablenold will present the awards.
