Shamrock drop is headed to Carbon
The first-ever shamrock drop is headed to Carbon County.
Little Gap Square at the Covered Bridge Inn will be the scene for the inaugural event, to be held Thursday through Sunday.
Ron Gilbert, owner, said the event will serve as a follow-up to the New Year's Eve ball drop held at Little Gap Square.
"If you're Irish, be there; if you want to party like the Irish, be there," Gilbert said. "The Irish tradition will be carried on with plenty of authentic Irish cuisine, drink specials, and outstanding Irish entertainment."
Gilbert said the CBI, an authentic American tavern located at the base of Blue Mountain Ski Area, will sponsor the four-day event.
The festivities will get under way Thursday during CBI's regular wing and mug night, with Irish wings served with Patty green sauce and mugs of green beer. At 7 p.m., Sir Joe Nagele will provide acoustic entertainment for the partiers. As a special feature, "Kenny the leprechaun", may make a surprise appearance.
Friday will be an evening to quietly enjoy the authentic Irish cuisine being served, along with the regular menu with soft Irish music playing the background.
On Saturday, beginning at 6:30 p.m., the seventh annual St. Patty's Day parade in Little Gap will begin, featuring the Scottish Highland shaggy cows, decorated goats, dogs, and other interesting animals along with tractors, custom cars, and floats. Piper Dave (the pipe sergeant) will lead the parade into Little Gap Square. Everyone is invited to wear their green and join in the parade, which will be followed by a post parade party inside that will feature Billy McGovern, who will provide Irish entertainment from 8-11 p.m.
An "End of the Ski Season Party" will then be held on Sunday, as guests may come and enjoy the Irish experience with green wings and green beer with Jeni Hackett, who will provide acoustic from 4-7 p.m.
The Covered Bridge Inn is located at the base of Blue Mountain Ski Area in the village of Little Gap, just five miles east of Palmerton.
