Break-ins, theft incidents probed

State police at Lehighton reported investigating burglaries and theft incidents occurring recently.

Troopers are probing a break-in at a Carbon County site. The residence of Joseph McDevitt, 72, of 1670 Owl Creek Rd., in Lehighton, Towamensing Township, was entered sometime between noon and 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 6. Removed from the home was a digital camera, three rings and multiple prescription medications. Entry was gained by forcing open a rear door.The property of Jay Kantrowitz, of Perkasie, and located at 20 Overlook Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County, was entered and removed was a snowblower which was later found in a wooded area near the home. The incident occurred sometime on Sunday.An attempted break-in occurred at the residence of Jeremiah Schafer, 24, of Watson Park Blvd., in Lehighton, Franklin Township. Schafer reported he went to the basement area of his home after he heard someone breaking through a door.Schafer confronted the intruder who fled the home towards the driveway area and was seen getting into a Jeep Wrangler, blue on color, with a black softtop. The intruder backed out the driveway of the residence and fled toward Green Street.He is described as being a white male, six-feet tall, thin build, wearing a red Phillies stocking cap, with dark jacket and blue jeans. The incident occurred about 2:15 p.m. on Monday, March 6.Troopers said Rosanne Ashley, 44, of Deer View Drive, Jim Thorpe, Penn Forest Township, reported someone used her ATM card to make two unauthorized withdrawals from her bank account totaling $550. The incident was reported on Sunday.Troopers said they are investigating the theft of money from the residence of Jon R. Roth, 53, of 350 Peter Ave., Palmerton, Towamensing Township. The theft occurred sometime between noon and 4 p.m. on Friday, March 4, troopers said.Troopers are also investigating the theft of copper from the rear of the residence of Brian R. Ratti, 34, of Box 24, Gilbert, Polk Township, Monroe County. The copper was in a van parked at that location and the theft occurred sometime between 2 and 3 a.m. on March 2.Troopers are investigating the theft of a motor vehicle. The 1996 Plymouth Breeze of Todd A. Shupp Sr., 49, of Palmerton, was taken from a parking area long Burger Hill Road, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County, sometime between 7 p.m. on March 4 and 2 a.m. on March 5. The vehicle is white in color.Troopers are also probing a criminal mischief incident. Donald Lilly, of Palmerton, reported someone wrote obscene language on the side of his vehicle while parked along Pine St., in Bowmanstown. The incident occurred sometime overnight of March 5-6.Anyone with information concerning any of these incidents is asked to call troopers at 610-377-4270.
