Man is injured in DUI-related crash

Andrew John Arnold, 23, of Brodheadsville, was injured in a one-vehicle crash March 6 at 3 a.m. on Stagecoach Road in Polk Township, Monroe County. State police at the Lehighton barracks said he was also arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

The accident happened at the intersection with Weir Mountain Road when Arnold, driving a 2008 Chevrolet Equinox, fell asleep while driving eastbound on Statecoach Road, Police said the vehicle traveled through the intersection with Weir Mountain Road, went off the south shoulder of the road and impacted a tree, causing it to snap in half.

After the initial impact, the vehicle rolled over three times before coming to rest 150 feet east of where it his the tree.

Police said Arnold was life-flighted in the St. Luke's Penn Star helicopter to the St. Luke Hospital, Fountain Hill. The West End EMS unit assisted at the scene, as did the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company.
