A truck tractor with trailer crashed along Interstate 81 in Foster Township, Schuylkill County, on Tuesday, March 6, causing damages to a stretch of guide rail.

State police at Frackville said William C. Overby, 44, of Atwater, Ohio, was driving a 2011 Freightliner southbound about 9:45 a.m. when he began to cough and then blacked out.

The rig went onto the shoulder and began to descend an embankment. Overby regained consciousness and attempted to steer back onto the road. The rig traveled along the shoulder for a total distance of 850 feet.

In the process the rig made contact with trees and shrubbery and also knocked down about 147 feet of guide rail and seven guide posts.

Overby was not injured but the rig had to be towed from the scene. Troopers cited Overby for driving on roadways laned for traffic.
