Woman charged in Tamaqua hit-and-run
Police have filed charges against a Tamaqua woman in connection with a Jan. 5 hit-and-run accident.
Marie Franko, 39, of 331 E. Union St., has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and hit-and-run. She was allegedly behind the wheel of a white Ford Explorer that day, traveling in the area of Mauch Chunk and Pine streets, when she struck the rear of a red Dodge Dakota operated by Mary Smulligan.
The Ford left the scene and was found minutes later, parked in a driveway next to Franko's home. When questioned by police, Franko appeared to be heavily intoxicated, stumbling around almost to the point of falling.
A preliminary breath test indicated she had a .269 blood alcohol content and she was unable to continue the testing process.
