Art league has new home

The Carbon County Art League is now holding its monthly meetings at the Penn-Kidder Senior Center in Bear Creek Lake Plaza, 995 State Route 903 in Jim Thorpe. Membership is open to anyone 18 or older.

The art league consists of painters, sculptors, printers, photographers, ceramists, calligraphers, wood and glass, metal workers, mixed media artists, instructors and students, connoisseurs and those interested in the arts and dedicated to inspiring and encouraging one another.The club endeavors to encourage and foster an awareness of the arts in Carbon County.The art league will meet the second Wednesday of each month, except January and February. The first meeting of 2012 will be 6:30 p.m. March 14.The public may bring recent art work with them for sharing and critiquing.The Carbon County Art League has been hosting an annual art show open to all artists in Carbon County or members for the past 30 years. This year's show is scheduled for June 2-3 at the Anita Shapolsky Art Gallery, 20 W. Broadway in Jim Thorpe.Categories will be: oil and acrylic; watercolor; photography; sculpture and mixed mediaA total of $1,000 in prize money will be awarded. Awards will be presented at the closing artist reception to be held on Sunday June 3. There is an entrance fee.For details and entry forms email
