A record-breaking weekend for hill climb

It was a record-breaking weekend at the June Weatherly Hill Climb as George Bowland from North Carolina won the event with a new record time of 47.592 seconds.
That superseded the standing hill record of 47.715 seconds which was also set by Bowland in September of 2010.
Seventy cars from throughout the country competed on the 1.1 mile course during the two day event which was sponsored by Fairway Subaru of Hazleton and co-sponsored by DeAngelo Brothers Inc. of Hazleton (DBI).
The cars entered in the competition were divided into a variety of classes determined by a car's performance potential.
The event was televised live for the first time both days by WYLN-TV of Hazleton and MetroCast Cable.
During the hill climb games, and food and refreshments by local non-profit groups and churches were available to the public.
Record-holder Bowland commended the event saying "this is a great hill and a great community. The organization is amazing."
President of the Weatherly Hill Climb Association Joe Cyburt said "we were really pleased with the turnout of people and the support from the local businesses is fantastic."
"There was a lot going on here, its not just racing. It was a successful weekend with a lot going on in the community."
The Weatherly Hill Climb will be run again later this year on the 15th and 16th of September.
