Towamensing Elementary holds end of year awards and graduation

Mrs. Christine Steigerwalt, Towamensing Elementary School principal wished everyone a "Happy Last Day" at the end of the year assembly. Special recognition was given to "all our outstanding students and our graduating sixth grade class," she said.

Mrs. Stacey Olewine and Mrs. Kocher recognized all the student council members representing all grades. Mrs. Olewine got a little emotional when she called out the sixth grade names. "They are wonderful wonderful kids. We'll miss them very much."

Ms. Dize recognized the band members, chorus and outstanding music awards for those who earned four O's.

Mrs. Cibo recognized the outstanding art awards for K-6.

Mrs. Broderick gave recognition to the school's peer tutors, sixth graders, dedicated to working with other students to help them succeed.

Mrs. Haydt recognized members of the Environmental Club.

Mrs. Steigerwalt gave recognition to those who earned perfect attendance, the third through sixth grade Honor Roll, and Principal's List.

Three sixth graders received special recognition for attaining Principal's List every marking period and all As in all academic subjects in third, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Their names will be placed on the Principal's Plaque in the main hall for all to see. They are: Eric Baumgardt, Timothy Maradeo and Avery Neipert.

Two sixth graders received the David Argall Good Citizenship Award for their "character, leadership, scholarship and acceptance of responsibility. You are to be recognized as an exemplary citizen" the citation read. They are: Avery Neipert and Hayden Kresge.

Mrs. Steigerwalt thanked all the Towamensing staff who helped all the students to succeed.

Sixth grader Colby Moyer also thanked the staff and sixth grade teachers.

"We'd like to give you a round of applause," and all the students gave the staff and teachers a standing ovation.

Mrs. Steigerwalt addressed the fifth graders, stating, "You will be our school's role models next year."

To the graduating sixth graders she said, "You are my second graduating sixth graders. Use your foundation and continue to use your SOAR expectations as you SOAR into seventh grade."
