Franklin Township played long ball in its District 18 11-12 tournament opener at Jim Thorpe on Friday night to come away with a 16-3 four-inning win.

Danny Keer hit two home runs, while Jonathan Herman belted another as Franklin banged out eight extra base hits in the contest.

The winners banged out 14 hits on the night, jumped on Jim Thorpe early and never looked back.

Franklin will now host Valley East on Monday night, while Jim Thorpe will travel to Weatherly on Monday night.

"We've been working hard on hitting drills," said Franklin Township manager Frank Bokan. "The kids have been hitting and hitting every day.

"We've been concentrating on hitting line drives and the home runs will come. We don't swing for the fences, we just swing to make solid contact."

Right from the start, Franklin hit some shots that dropped in for hits and they took a quick 5-0 lead.

Frank Bokan led off the game with a single and scored on Keer's first blast over the right field fence to score the first two runs.

Haris Cokrlija doubled to left and scored on a Collin Haupt single. Back-to-back doubles by Nolan Wentz and Dalton Berger scored two more runs as Franklin batted around.

Jim Thorpe managed to come back with a run in the bottom of the first as Nick Rosahac walked and scored on a double by Louis Valdez.

Bokan started off the second inning the same we he did the first, with a single to right field and Jack Schaeffer reached on an error. Keer was safe on a fielder's choice loading the bases.

Bokan scored on a wild pitch and Gabe Wagner's double scored Schaeffer and Keer to make it 8-1.

Rosahac drew a two-out walk for Jim Thorpe in the bottom of the second, stole second and scored when Justin Marykwas reached on an error. Marykwas crossed the playte on a base hit by Valdez.

Franklin countered with two runs of its own in the third when Schaeffer walked and scored on Keer's second home run of the night, a blast over the scoreboard in left field.

The winners put the 10-run rule into effect with six runs in the top of the fourth thanks to Wagner's second double of the night, a single by Haupt, a two-run homer by Herman, walks to Bokan and Keer and a single by Caine Carpenter.

Keer got the win, with relief help from Bokan. Matt Day took the loss for Thorpe.

"I'm proud of our kids. They didn't give up early," said Jim Thorpe manager Joe Marykwas. "We were down in a hole. Hats off to Franklin. They hit the ball extremely well. We just have to come back and play Monday and shake this one off."
