Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported on several crashes investigated by troopers, including two hit and runs.

A one vehicle crash was reported about 8:28 p.m. on June 9 along Rock St., in Franklin Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Jessica L. Hartman, 22, of Lehighton, was driving a 1999 Chrysler Sebring southbound she crashed due to vehicle failure. The car went off the road and down a steep embankment and crashed into a tree where it came to rest.

Hartman sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Lehighton hospital by Lehighton ambulance. The car was towed from the scene.

Another one vehicle crash was reported about 6:51 a.m. on June 11 along SR248 in Bowmanstown, Carbon County. Troopers said Victor E. Urrutia, 57, of Allentown, was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer westbound when he struck the concrete barrier. Urrutia sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Lehighton Hospital by Palmerton ambulance. Troopers said he was cited for the crash.

A hit and run accident was reported about 11:40 a.m. on June 6 at the intersection of SR209 and Rock St., in Franklin Township. Troopers said Tara Stepanitis, 26, of Shavertown, Luzerne County, was stopped at a stop sign on Rock St. Another vehicle was traveling on 209 and made a left turn onto Rock St. with the driver entering the wrong lane. The vehicle struck the passenger side of Stepanitis' 2010 Mazda 3. The other driver then fled the scene. Stepanitis was not injured.

The second hit and run was reported on on Saturday, June 16, about 6 p.m. at Pennel and Meixall Valley roads, in Ross Township, Monroe County. Troopers said James Louis Stagnito, of Nazareth, was operating a 2003 Hyundai Elantra southbound on Pennel approaching Meixall when hit car was struck in the rear twice by another vehicle. After the second impact the other driver fled the scene. Stagnito was not injured.

The hit and run vehicle was believed to be a Ford F350 dual cab truck. A partial of the registration plate obtained was 1698.
