Thousands of visitors took to downtown Tamaqua on Father's Day during the Tamaqua Historical Society's 22nd Annual Summerfest. The festival, which was comprised of live music, vendors, foods, crafts, games, activities and rides, was made better this year as live performers or talented volunteers with the new Tamaqua Community Arts Center were staged throughout festival route.

"The addition of these live performers made the festival even more enjoyable for all who visited," said Linda Yulanavage, executive director, Tamaqua Chamber of Commerce.

The historic 1848 Hegarty Blacksmith Shop was also open for free tours and featured resident blacksmith Don Campbell.

The Tamaqua Gallery located inside the Chamber of Commerce office was also open with a new photography exhibit titled 'My Mondays' by local visual artist Tracy Perry.

The Tamaqua Street Machine Association also showcased their antique and classic cars.

The grand opening of the new Tamaqua Community Arts Center was also a special feature of this year's Summerfest. The center, located inside the former Salem Church, 125 Pine Street, featured an art exhibit which featured 30 artists and live entertainment performed throughout the day.

Dale Freudenberger, Historical Society president, added, "Our Summerfest is one of the largest annual celebrations in downtown Tamaqua and provides an opportunity for the family to spend the day together outdoors, as well as celebrate Father's Day." More information is available at the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce, (570) 668-1880.
