Music and Arts in the Streets

Area talent will be in abundance in downtown Tamaqua Sunday as the grand opening of the Tamaqua Community Arts Center 2012 is held in conjunction with the Tamaqua Historical Society's Tamaqua Summerfest.
Along with the performers, there will be an art show, food and other activities at the new center at 125 Pine Street.
"Tying it all together with Summerfest, center volunteers will perform all around town with our "Music & Arts in the Streets" program," said Rose Marie Beck, event organizer. "In the afternoon, you'll find strolling musicians stopping on the corners and in Depot Square."
Featured performers will be Cassidy Munley, 16, singer/guitarist; Cliff and Norm, old time music-dulcimer, banjo, guitar, etc.; Sean McGeehan, acoustic guitar/singer; Kathy Rimm, acoustic guitar/singer; The Strawberry Playhouse; The Coalcracker Barbershop Chorus and others. Also helping promote the center's grand opening will be Lizard Creek performing at the Blacksmith Shop from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
"We will have many types of artwork on display at the center," said Kim Grant, art show organizer.
The art exhibit from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. will feature works from Linda DeCarlo, Roberta Chinchar, Myrtle Creitz, Robert Huegel, Kathy Rimm, Kim Woodward's student collage, Lori Remmel's student graphic works, Kim Grant, Theodore Clemson, Andrea Bowen, Janet Dean, C. Marie Ward, Rose Beck, Lynn Creitz, Karen Leibenguth, Tracy Perry, Jacob Gursky, Panther Valley school artwork, Marnie Schock, Tom Evans, Jackie Schaeffer, Duane Allen, Jordan Leibenguth, Lauren Kleinberg, Irene Frangioudakis and others.
A number of free concerts begin at 5 p.m. at the center. Among the performers will be Tamaqua 6th grader Faith Roberts, 12; Malibu, featuring Tamaqua High School students Shane Mulligan, Damian Munoz and Ivan Munoz; Headlining Category 5 Trio featuring Tamaqua's Kathy Rimm; and others.
