More distressing news for the Panther Valley came today with the announcement that the Lansford Breaker of the Panther Valley Coal Company has been closed, resulting in the termination of work for from 70 to 85 men. The company also announced the temporary shutdown of its mine operations there, both curtailments having become effective at the end of the work schedule today. The temporary shutdown will put an estimated 1,400 miners out of work for at least four weeks.
