Nearly 80 youngsters up to age 15 cast their lines - and hopes - for that big catfish at the Kids Krazy Katfish Kontest held Saturday at the Phifer Ice Dam Park, Franklin Township.

The event was sponsored by the Franklin Township Lions Club.

According to Bob Correll, committee member, some of the catfish being lured were as big as eight or nine pounds and up to 28 or 29 inches long. Approximately 200 to 250 fish weighting 500 lbs. total were put in the pond prior to the event.

Using chicken liver for bait, Dylan Schock, 14, of Lehighton, caught the largest fish, measuring 24 and three-quarter inches.

Correll said that all the registered children received a prize whether they caught a fish or not.
