Driver facing DUI after crash

Published June 12. 2012 05:01PM

A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI) following a one vehicle crash that occurred about 11:20 p.m. on Friday, June 8, along SR443 in Wayne Township.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Jill Kelly, 26, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound when she glanced down at her cell phone. She lost control of the car and traveled onto the north berm.

The right side of the car struck a wire fence with wooden posts. After traveling along the berm for about 70 feet while striking the fence, the Cobalt went down a slight embankment and impacted with a utility pole. The impact sheered the pole in half, troopers said.

After impact with the pole the car spun 180-degrees counter-clockwise and came to rest over a creek facing south.

Kelly was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for treatment of minor injuries. She was found to be under the influence and submitted to a blood test.

The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.
