Crashes probed by Fern Ridge SP

State police at Fern Ridge reported on several crashes investigated by troopers recently.

A rear-end type crash occurred about 2:43 p.m. on May 24 along SR209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta, driven northbound by Samantha L. Wilson, 20, of Lehighton, rear-ended a 2007 Freightliner tractor with trailer operated by Jerzy Zubek, 52, of East Brunswick, N.J., who was stopped for traffic.

Troopers indicated Wilson was injured but did not state if she required medical attention.

Another rear-end type crash occurred about 12:53 p.m. on May 27 at the intersection of SR115 and Gilbert Road, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Jeffrey J. Pase, 53, of Blakeslee, was stopped at the traffic light on 115 when his 2009 Chevrolet Malibu was struck in the rear by a 2010 Dodge driven by Cruz K. Babish, 20, of Effort. Babish sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Pocono Medical Center (PMC), East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance.

Troopers cited Babish for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.

Troopers investigated a crash along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County, on May 28 about 1:56 p.m. Troopers said Danny Rivera, 38, of Bronx, N.Y., was driving a 2007 Kia Sedona eastbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Rivera attempted to avoid the animal by swerving his vehicle when a second deer entered the road, which his vehicle struck and killed.

Rivera and his four passengers were all not injured.

Troopers said about 10:46 a.m. along I-80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County, a 2008 Dodge Avenger driven by Kathryn A. Wilson, 60, of Mainesburg, Tioga County, struck a 2012 Mazda 6 operated by Mohammed Abubakar, 27, of Lincolnshire, Ill. Wilson and Abubakar both sustained minor injuries. Troopers cited Wilson for driving on roadways laned for traffic.

A one-vehicle crash occurred about 6:30 a.m. on June 2 at the intersection of SR115 and Weir Lake Road, in Chestnuthill Township. Troopers said Alanna C. Handley, 17, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2001 Chrysler Town & Country, southbound on 115 and attempted to make a right turn onto Weir Lake Road to go west when she crossed over the eastbound lane and hit a dirt embankment along Weir Lake Road.

Handley was injured and taken to the PMC by West End ambulance.
