A Schuylkill County man has admitted in federal court to possessing child pornography.

Timothy R. Steward Jr., 39, of Barnesville, pleaded guilty before U.S. Magistrate Judge Malachy E. Mannion, of Scranton, to sexual exploitation of children-production of child pornography.

Steward was indicted by a federal grand jury on Feb. 2. It is alleged that Steward produced pornographic images of a boy, under the age of 18, during the time frame of January 2000 to December 2011.

The charges stem from an investigation by the state police Computer Crimes Unit and the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children assisted in the probe.

According to authorities Steward produced numerous pornographic pictures of a young boy and saved them on various forms of media. Additional images of alleged child pornography was also found, it was noted, on Steward's computer.

The plea agreement calls for him to receive a prison term of 20 years followed by a lifetime of supervision under the registration requirements of the Adam Walsh Act.
