An American Red Cross Bloodmobile visited Tamaqua on May 23, collecting 41 units of the "gift of life." The event was held at St. John United Church of Christ on Pine Street.

Multi-donation awards were presented to Mark Kosica, 7 gallons; and Carl Heisler, 12 gallons.

Local volunteers assisting Red Cross personnel were Joan Camerini, Jean Stevens, Darlene and Bob Zeckman, Dolly Shirey and Bob Shirey.

This visit was sponsored by Nove Marie's Thrift Shop, 44 W. Broad St., Tamaqua.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met May 31 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 89 members in attendance.

President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and provided an inspirational reading. Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Talk To Him." Vice President Nancy Gerber and secretary Joan Anne Garber provided their reports.

George Fisher and Sis Mengel were added to the sick list. April and May birthdays were celebrated with cake and ice cream.

Upcoming events include a trip to Knoebel's in June, a Chinese auction in July and a picnic in August.

The meeting concluded with cards and social games.

The group meets every Thursday at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

Cressona band

The Cressona Band will be appearing locally three times over the summer months, providing free entertainment to all.

The first concert will be held today, at 7 p.m., at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St. Next up will be a performance at the East End Playground, at 7 p.m., on July 18. The third appearance will be Aug. 5, from 4-6 p.m., at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.

All of the performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear.

The public is welcome to attend.

SS. Peter and Paul

High school and college graduates were honored at the 8 a.m. Mass on June 3 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, Pine Street. Honorees included: Nicole Bechtal, Anthony Damiano, Kaysi McLaughlin, Anthony Pilla and Logan Rutch from Marian Catholic; Amber Carroll, Amber Heffelfinger, Victoria Priester, Jenna Schlosser, Nicholas Toth, Caitlyn Trainer, Paul Vlcek, Andrea Whitley and Zachary Zancofsky from Tamaqua Area; Nicholas Sicchitano from Mahanoy Area; William Stalgaitis from Panther Valley; and Abby Pilla from St. Jerome's.

The Holy Name Society will meet this Thursday, at 8 p.m. The meeting will be preceded by a 7:30 p.m. Mass.

St. John Lutheran

The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will be followed by a meeting of the learning ministry committee.

Activities for next week include: Monday, church council will meet at 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Bible study session at 6:30 p.m.

Summer office hours are now in effect. The office will be open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
