Warrior Hike to benefit veterans visits Walnutport VFW tomorrow

Published June 02. 2012 09:01AM

Mark Silvers and Sean Gobi, both United States Marine Corps captains and lifetime VFW members, are hiking all 2,180 miles of the Appalachian Trail to aid wounded veterans.

They will be stopping at the Walnutport VFW Post 7215 at 5 p.m. Sunday to talk about the Warrior Hike mission.

Since the start of the hike on March 15, they have stopped at eight VFW Posts and raised over $9,000 for veterans. Posts have hosted bingo nights, potlucks, and other types of meet and greet events to raise awareness and economic donations for their cause.

The Warrior Hike fundraiser will use the donations raised to offset the cost of purchasing adaptive vehicles for veterans who have suffered multiple amputations during combat operations in Afghanistan. One hundred percent of all donations will be used to benefit the veterans and are tax deductible.
