Burglary, theft incidents probed
State police at Schuylkill Haven reported investigating three burglaries and theft incidents at Schuylkill County locations.
Troopers said a burglary occurred at the Manbeck Zion E.C. Church, located at 110 Wild Cherry Rd., in Washington Township. Entry was gained to the basement of the church through unlocked doors to the rear. Once inside about 100-feet of copper piping an inch and one quarter in size was removed. The piping was used for the heating system. The scrap value of the copper was estimated at between $400 and $500. The incident occurred sometime between May 20-25.
Troopers said the Champs Fitness and Sports Center, located in the Kings Village Plaza, in Norwegian Township, was entered about 2:47 a.m. on Friday, May 25. Troopers did not indicate if anything was taken.
The residence of Brad Bensinger, 119 Spruce St., Port Carbon, was entered through an unlocked door. Removed was a Smith & Wesson 38-special handgun, silver in color, along with a tan leather holding case. The break-in occurred sometime between May 19-24.
Troopers said unknown criminals removed a Ruth Steiner Memorial SPCA sign from the property at 18 Wertz Drive, in Pine Grove Township. The theft occurred sometime between 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 27, and 10 a.m. on Monday.
Stephen Frantz, of Pine Grove, reported someone stole a handicap sign from the area designated for handicap fishermen in the area of 32A Newswanger Road, in Washington Township. The theft occurred sometime between 10 a.m. on Friday, May 25, and 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Richard Orth, of Kutztown, reported someone took a Cignal mountain bike, red in color, various fishing equipment, including a couple of fishing rods, and a minnow bucket, yellow in color, that had been left behind in the area of Landingville Dam, in South Manheim Township. The incident occurred between May 24-26.
