A Carbon County man is facing a charge of firearms not to be carried without a license.

Nesquehoning Police Chief Sean Smith said Robert John Semko, 47, of 261 E. Railroad St., Nesquehoning, is facing the charge following an incident that occurred about 11:58 a.m. on June 23.Smith said at the time stated he and Officer Chad McGowan responded to a report of a male behind the Panther Creek Co-Generation Plant off Dennison Road, intoxicated, armed and suicidal driving a Jeep Cherokee.The two officers arrived on scene and observed the vehicle in question speeding down Tower Road, which the officers blocked with their patrol unit.The Jeep operator stopped and he was identified as Semko. Police took him into custody and found was a .380-caliber pistol in his front pocket with a loaded magazine.Semko was taken to the Lehighton hospital for a volunteer committment to the mental health unit. Enroute he told officers he had a concealed weapons license for the gun but it had expired.Smith check with the county sheriff's department, which had no record of Semko ever having a permit for the gun. A further check was made with the state police and it was confirmed that Semko had no permit issued to him anywhere in the state for the permit to carry the weapon.
