Wedding party helps put out van fire

ANDREW LEIBENGUTH/TIMES NEWS

Police and firefighters were called to a van on fire just before 6 p.m. on Saturday at the one-hundred block of North Railroad Street in Tamaqua. Witnesses said they saw fire shooting from under the hood and inside the seating compartment. Good Samaritans, coming from a wedding and wearing semi-formal attire, were quick to help the man out of the vehicle and put water onto the fire. The incident blocked northbound traffic on SR309 from going through Tamaqua, causing a heavy traffic jam. Volunteers with Tamaqua Fire Police responded at provided alternate routes from drivers. Also responding were Tamaqua Ambulance and firefighters from East End Fire Company and American Hose Company. No injuries were reported.
