Schuylkill man jailed for assault

Published July 30. 2012 05:03PM

A Schuylkill County man was jailed early Sunday morning following a domestic incident.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at 19 Church St., Gilberton, about 12:30 a.m. Troopers said Gary Schaeffer, 54, and a 50-year-old woman, both of that address (troopers did not identity the victim), became involved in a verbal dispute.

During the dispute Schaeffer allegedly pushed the female to the ground and struck her several times. She attempted to run and hide in a bathroom but Schaeffer kicked the door in and pulled her back out. He then called 9-1-1 and waited for police.

The female sustained several physical injuries, which required medical attention. Scaheffer was taken into custody and charged with simple assault and related offenses. He was arraigned by on-call District Judge Carol Pankake, of Tremont, and committed to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post 10 percent of $15,000 bail.
