A crash along Interstate 81 in Schuylkill County on Wednesday morning involving a tractor trailer and car caused the roadway to shutdown for a period of time after the rig caught fire. State police at Frackville said the crash occurred about 10:35 a.m. in the northbound lanes in Butler Township.

Troopers said Anthony Goines, of Max Meadows, Va., was driving a 2007 Freightliner tractor with trailer in fog when he rear-ended a 1996 Chrysler Sebring driven by Lester Wagner, 75, of Fredericksburg, Va.

After impact the rig continued for about two-tenths of a mile north against the guide rails before it caught fire.

Goines escaped uninjured as the rig was destroyed by fire.

Wagner was trapped in his car and freed by rescue personnel. He was flown from the scene by Lifeflight helicopter to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, with reported head injuries. Damages were severe to the car.

Both northbound lanes were shutdown for about an hour causing the detour of traffic off the busy interstate.
