Speed stop leads to charges

Published July 25. 2012 05:01PM

A speeding stop led to charges against a Philadelphia resident. Pocono Mountain Regional police said the incident occurred about 4:09 p.m. on Friday, July 20, along Echo Lake Road.

Police said a vehicle was stopped at the above location and time for speeding. During the stop a passenger in the vehicle, later identified as Wayne Barnes, 41, gave conflicting information about his identity and was subsequently placed under arrest for false identification to law enforcement.

After being taken into custody Barnes provided a name which was his true identity. A check revealed he was wanted by the Monroe County Sheriff's Department for failure to appear in the county court in May for a charge of fleeing and eluding.

Barnes was placed in the county prison on the outstanding warrant with the fake ID count to be filed by Pocono officers.
