A Carbon County man has been identified as the driver of a car that crashed along SR93 in Banks Township, Carbon County, early Wednesday morning with the vehicle bursting into flames and being destroyed.

State police at Hazleton said the 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix was driven by Bryan Dorn, 45, of Nesquehoning. The crash occurred about 5:45 a.m., a 10th of a mile south of Ochre Mill Road.

According to troopers, Dorn was traveling at a high rate of speed and after negotiating a left-hand curve, he lost control. The car traveled onto the east shoulder where it impacted with a tree.

After impacting with the tree the front end of the car burst into flames. The car came to rest about 270 feet north of the tree on the east shoulder of the road facing north.

Dorn had to be pulled from the burning car by passing motorists. He was flown by PennStar helicopter to St. Luke's Hospital, Fountain Hill. The hospital had no condition report this morning for Dorn.

Troopers said it has not been determined if Dorn was wearing a seat belt. The investigation into the crash is continuing.

Assisting troopers at the scene were Weatherly Fire Company and ambulance personnel and borough police.

Two photos of the accident scene appeared on page one of Wednesday's TIMES NEWS.
