A 63-year-old Bethlehem man, charged with inappropriately touching a female younger than age 13, was scheduled for a hearing before District Judge Edward Lewis yesterday.

However, at the request of his attorney, a public defender who was just assigned the case, the hearing has been continued until July 25.

The defendant, Robert Joseph Overbeck, continues to be held in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.

The hearing was scheduled before District Judge Edward Lewis of Jim Thorpe.

The alleged offense happened between May 1 and June 22 in a Penn Forest Township residence, according to court records. Overbeck was arrested by Trooper H. Christopher Bonin of the Lehighton barracks of the state police on June 7 of this year.

According to the affidavit, Overbeck told Trooper Bonin that he inappropriately touched the child "for sexual gratification."

Overbeck has been charged with three counts of indecent assault and corruption of minors.
