Salaries set for summary help; other personnel matters

Salaries for teachers hired for the Academic Summer School Program were set by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board at its monthly meeting Monday evening held at the North Campus near Frackville.

Joy Schwen, $250 for Algebra II and $1,125 for Geometry; Dawn Ayars. Social Studies seventh and eighth grades, $625; Michelle Baver, Math, seventh and eighth grades, $625; Katherine Cartwright, Algebra I, $625; Jennifer Heming, English, seventh and eighth grades, $875; Elise Popalis, English ninth and 10th grades, $1,125 and English 11th and 12th grades, $875; and Adrian Portland, Biology, $125 and Science, seventh and eighth Grades, $250.

Employment change status was approved for two instructors.

John Rehnert, social worker, from 12th months status (240 days) to 10 months status (200 days) at an adjusted salary of $47,614; and John Pickering, technology support specialist, from 12 months to 10 months a adjusted salary of $24,680.

The board established a fee of $110 for member school districts and $150 for non-member school districts and other entitities for video conferencing field trips for the 2012-2013 school year.

A business associate agreement was entered with Safety Net Counseling Inc. for providing of services to children with emotional difficulties. An agreement was approved with Blended Schools, McVeytown, Mifflin County, in the amount of 1$0,769 for online learning technology and curriculum.

An agreement with Lancaster/Lebanon IU for enrollment in the microsoft EES program with all costs covered by the Century Community Learning Centers Grant. An agreement with Keystone Insurers Group Inc. for the Schuylkill County School Employees' Health and Welfare Trust Fiduciary Responsibility Insurance for $7,628.

Also, approved was an agreement with Leader Services Inc., Hazleton, for the Schuylkill Intermediate School Age and Early Intervention Program. And approved was participation in the National School Lunch Program for the coming school year.

Personnel matters

Rita Scales, a part-time teacher aide at the Maple Avenue Campus is retiring. Nicholas Reeser, Behavior Interventionist; Helene O'Connell, custodian at South Campus; Kim Grigas, part-time secretary; and Tina Ilsley, part-time teacher aide, all resigned to take employment elsewhere.

Khizr Hussain, Orwigsburg, academic summer school instructor, resigned due to family emergency and Joseph Kaplafka, state inspection instructor, for personal reasons.

Janet Cooke was hired as a teacher aide at Pine Grove Area School District during the summer to provide Extended School Year services to eligible students. Cody Conville, Minersville, was added to seasonal summer maintenance staff at $8.25 per hour.

Mary Lou Murphy, Brockton, was hired as a substitute nurse at $19.65 per hour. Also, Megan Lengle, Pine Grove, was hired as a substitute teacher in Pine Grove at $80 per day; Caryn Chattin, Schuylkill Haven, hired as substitute behavior interventionist at Schuylkill Haven at $80 per day.

Rhonda Mertz, Barbara Shappell and Caryn Chattin, all of Schuylkill Haven, hired as substitute teacher aides at $82.5 pe hour. Rhonda Mertz, Schuylkill Haven, hired as substitute cafeteria worker at $7.5 0 per hour. Thomas Buff, currently the automotive technology instructor, was named state inspection instructor at $25 per hour.
