Driver leads police on chase

A Monroe County driver led police on a high-speed chase and is facing charges.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said about 11:59 p.m. on July 6 they observed an Acura Integra traveling eastbound on SR940, near Interstate 380, at a very high rate of speed. Police attempted to stop the car but the driver sped off.

The chase continued at a high rate of speed into Mount Pocono where the driver ran a red traffic light at the intersection with SR611 and crashed.

The driver was identified as Cordaryl A. Cousar, 22, of Mount Pocono. He was taken into custody after a short altercation during which he and an officer suffered injuries.

Cousar was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, for treatment of minor injuries and released to police. He was then placed in the county prison on charges of fleeing and eluding and other counts. The injured officer was taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County, for treatment. State police at Swiftwater assisted in the incident.
