Wanted Schuylkill man caught in D.C.

A Schuylkill County man wanted for aggravated assault and other charges was apprehended in Washington, D.C., and returned to the county.

State police at Frackville said Gabriel Xavier Thomas, 29, of Newport News, Va., was taken into custody on June 29 by police in the nation's capital. An arrest warrant was issued for Thomas following an incident that occurred on June 27 about 3 a.m. in the village of Cumbola, Blythe Township.

State police at Frackville obtained a criminal arrest warrant for Thomas charging him with aggravated assault.

According to troopers,a t the time and site stated, Thomas subjected his girlfriend, whose name was not released by police, to physical contact at their residence. He allegedly used a knife against her during the incident.

The female received numerous injuries, none life threatening, but refused medical treatment.

Thomas fled the scene prior to the arrival of troopers. A warrant was then issued for his arrest and his name was sent out on a national network.

Schuylkill County District Attorney Karen Noon then filed for extradition of Thomas back to Pennsylvania, which he did not fight. He was returned to the state by troopers and arraigned before District Judge David Plachko, of Port Carbon, on Thursday, July 5, and remanded to the county prison in Pottsville after failing to post $100,000 straight cash bail.
