Published July 06. 2012 05:02PM

Looking for a little excitement and adventure?

The lazy, hazy days of summer are a great time to head to your local library and check out a little summer reading.

The librarians at Dimmick Memorial Library have recommended several books that students in first through 12th grade might enjoy.

The grade levels and recommended books include:

First to third grade: Ivy & Bean Book 1 by Ann Barrows; The Little House by Virgina Lee Burton; and Diary of a Whimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.

Fourth to seventh grade: Little House In The Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder; The Year of the Book by Andra Cheng; and Warriors: Into the Wild by Erin Hunter.

Eighth to 12th grade: Divergent by Veronica Roth; Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson; and Swim to Fly by Don Calame.

The Dimmick Memorial Library is located at 54 Broadway in Jim Thorpe. The phone number is (570) 325-2131, or visit online at

The library is open from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays; from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursdays; and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays during the summer (regular Saturday hours are 9 a.m. until 4 p.m.)

Check the Lifestyle page next Friday for more summer reading recommendations for students from TIMES NEWS area libraries.
