Man lifeflighted following vehicle in accident in Hometown

Just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, firefighters and rescuers were called to SR54 in Hometown, near Church Road, for a vehicle accident involving an entrapped man. Rush Township Police reported that William Brown, 82, of Hometown was traveling west on SR54, Pine Creek Drive, in his red 2010 Buick, when his vehicle went off the roadway and struck a stump, coming to a rest in a drainage ditch. After being extricated, a PennStar helicopter landed at the parking lot of the Sovereign Bank in Hometown to fly the man to St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. Responding were Rush Township and Mahanoy City Police, Hometown Fire Company, Quakake Fire Company, Lehighton Ambulance and others. Rush Township Fire Police closed SR54 for the duration of the response. The condition of the man was unknown as of press time.
