McCarroll named Indians' grid coach

Lehighton Area School Board hired Tom McCarroll as the new head football coach for the Indians on Monday evening.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to coach here for a school with such a strong football tradition," said McCarroll.A resident of Lehighton, McCarroll brings with him a strong football background. After playing Division I-AA college football for the Colgate Raiders, McCarroll has been an assistant high school football coach for the Marian Colts, Whitehall Zephyrs, and Catasauqua Rough Riders.According to McCarroll, "I think we're in for some exciting seasons. Lehighton football has a lot of promise with a lot of potential." He will now go to work putting together his coaching staff.McCarroll replaces George Ebbert who played at Lehighton and was associated with the program as a coach for the past 27 years.The school board also hired the following candidates for LASD athletics: Matthew Fisher, golf coach; Jonathan Hakim, assistant girls' soccer coach; Steve Holland, spring game manager; Lamar Long, head field hockey coach; Timothy O'Connor, head volleyball coach; and David Yob, head boys' soccer coach.
