Dr. Arnold relays condolences to Lewoc family
At the Pleasant Valley School District board meeting, superintendent Dr. Douglas Arnold expressed his sincere condolences to the family of the late Frankie Lewoc, a Pleasant Valley High School graduate, who was killed in an automobile accident Jan. 4.
"He was an excellent student here at PV. Our hearts and prayers go out to the Lewoc family," said Dr. Arnold.
Dr. Arnold said he received a letter from Frank Johnson, basketball coach at JT Lambert Intermediate School in East Stroudsburg, thanking PV and the team for their hospitality at the Dec. 22 game. He said it was the first time they ever came to a game to play where each player was presented with a Christmas card and a chocolate lollipop.
The district also received a thank-you letter from the Effort UMC Supplemental Center for its donations and contributions which helped feed approximately 50 families in need over the holidays.
Dr. Arnold also:
*wanted to publicly thank the West End and Polk Township Volunteer Fire Companies for their participation in educating the district's K-2 students.
*congratulated the 35 FBLA students who scored high enough at the regional competition to qualify for the state competition in April
*recognized the accomplishments of two PVHS students. A design created by PVHS/MCTI 12th grade student Caitlin Dolan was selected to be used as the commemorative pin that will be presented to SkillsUSA participants at the February event and the design selected for the 2012 SkillsUSA program cover was designed by PVHS/MCTI 10th grade student, Chelsea Wood.
*congratulated two PV students who took first and second place in this year's Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. drawing contest. The first place winner's design was selected for the program cover for East Stroudsburg University's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s breakfast event, held on Jan. 16. Another PV student's design was selected for the event's tickets. Eight people attended from PV.
Board members, H. Charles Hoffman and James Spinola were absent.
The board approved, 7-0, to hire:

The board also approved the following business items, 7-0:
*to advertise for sealed bids for janitorial supplies, equipment, general supplies, office and classroom furniture and audio visual supplies and equipment
Board member Russ Gould asked if there was anything that could be done about the PA system in the gym, saying it is very hard to understand the announcer.
Chris Fisher said he would contact someone to come out and look at it during an event. A discussion ensued about much would that cost to have someone come look at it. No amount was known.
Resident Francesca Zielkowski said she read that it was National School Board Recognition Month and she wanted to thank all the members of the school board for all the hard work they do for the district.
