Rig driver is hurt in interstate crash
Lorisa K. Feltner, 43, of Carlisle, was injured in a one-vehicle crash at 4:33 p.m. Jan. 17 along Interstate 81 in Butler Township, Schuylkill County.
State police at the Frackville barracks said the severity of her injuries is unknown at this time. She was transported to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, by the Frackville EMS.
Police said she was driving a 2001 Freightliner southbound when it traveled to the right off of the travel lanes of the interstate and entered the shoulder area of the road, making impact with the guard rail.
After "taking out" about 170 feet of railing, the vehicle jumped the guardrail and traveled over 200 feet down a steep embankment, overturning and crashing into several trees. Police said it came to rest facing southwest on its roof at the bottom of the embankment.
Police said it is unknown what caused the operator to travel off the roadway. She will be charged with failure to drive on roadways laned for traffic.
In addition to the Frackville EMS, police were assisted by the Shenandoah EMS and the Goodwill, Altamont and Englewood fire departments, as well as the state highway department.
