Fire destroyed 13 row houses in Mahanoy City today. Firemen said all the residents fled to safety and there were only a few reports of minor injuries. It was reported the fire started in the basement of one of the houses on East Mahanoy Street and spread in both directions. Companies from Shenandoah, Tamaqua, Pine Township, Frackville, and Quakake joined Mahoning City firefighters in battling the blaze. Police estimated damages at $100,000.
