Vehicle stop leads to drug charges

A vehicle stop in Carbon County led to drug charges being filed.

State police at Lehighton said a 2001 Ford Explorer was stopped about 6:53 p.m. for an equipment violation. The stop was made along SR248 at SR895 in Bowmanstown.

Troopers said the driver was identified as Enrique Ulissess Ortiz Jr., of the 200 block of W. Ridge St., Lansford. Troopers detected criminal activity and requested and was granted a search of the vehicle by Ortiz.

Found in the vehicle was 40 glassine baggies containing heroin and 21 methadone pills. Ortiz allegedly admitted the drugs belonged to him.

He was placed under arrest and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, possession and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning in lieu of $10,000 bail, troopers said.
