Mahoning Township Chief of Police Ken Barnes reported the arrest of a fugitive from justice on Saturday.

David V. Cummings, 46, giving a local address of the 200 block of North Seventh Street, Lehighton, was placed under arrest as a fugitive from justice.

He was remanded to the Carbon County Correctional Facility awaiting extradition procedures.

Police said on Saturday, Jan. 7, at about 2:21 a.m., a police officer stopped a vehicle on SR443 between the Pizza Hut and Mahoning Mountain Road for vehicle code violations.

The officer conducted an NCIC check of the driver and found that there was an outstanding felony warrant issued out of Los Angeles, Calif., for the driver, for possession of a controlled substance.

The warrant was verified with an LAPD detective and they were willing to extradite.
